Brian Lucas is pleased to be returning to the Town Council, now to represent Bonchurch. Since retiring from a career as a construction surveyor, and living in Bonchurch Village for the last 15 years he is very conscious of the benefits of strengthening peoplesí community involvement in the place where they live. As an active hands-on Vice Chairman of the Bonchurch Community Association he is keen to see Bonchurch overcome the several losses of village amenities it has suffered in recent years. Brian is a trustee and project worker of various local charities, and an Associate Governor of Ventnorís new primary school.

He has visited the island regularly since childhood, and moved here permanently after working in industry (operations and HR) for nearly thirty years. He is a strong believer in openness and transparency, and looks forward to working with fellow councillors to progress the council's strategy, building upon the town's strengths as a unique and very special place to live.

I am Island raised and have recently returned with my family following 14 years on the continent.
As for my career; I worked in aviation, initially as an engineer and latterly as a project manager. Now I am principally a family man and therefore able to dedicate a decent amount of time to upcoming town council duties. I am looking forward to making a positive contribution to Ventnor; my main concerns are environmental and community issues but overall my interests are wide and varied. I am very happy to be living in St Lawrence and I hope to meet many of my fellow residents during my tenure - be that on the doorstep, walking the footpaths or perhaps youíll see me on my push bike going to and from the town.

Iím a mum, a wife, a carer, a dog owner and an environmental artivist. I have experience in facilitating peoples assemblies and am currently undergoing ongoing training to help me further with these, through Trust The People.
Iím an experienced and qualified trainer. Climate and environment are very important issues to me. Our microclimate and geology make Ventnor uniquely positioned in the effects that worsening climate will have. Growing and preserving food, re-purposing textiles are of great interest to me.
We all have different skills and interests. Not one person has all the answers, but collectively, we do.

James Toogood re-joined Ventnor Town Council in October 2019, following a short break, having previously been a member for 8 years. James wanted to be part of a team that provides the best services possible to the Town and ensuring value for money. A native Islander, James brings qualified talents as a businessman with practical knowledge and ability in the building trade. His renovation and restoration experience makes him ideal in judging the merits or otherwise of developments in the town. He believes in openness and working with the electorate, encouraging them to take a full part in the Town's future.

Steph Toogood is probably best known as a fitness educator specialising in all levels of aquatic exercise. From School she chose to train as an electrical engineer but a complete career change means she now lectures on fitness and wellness globally, having received many awards and was named as one of the top 10 fitness instructors in the UK by the Sunday Times.

Steph mostly focuses on the more mature population and their mobility. She has been advisor and consultant to several organisations and companies, and founded Seaclose Swimming Club with experience as treasurer and secretary to clubís and schoolís PTAs.

Her successful fitness company has trained thousands of instructors throughout the UK over 25 years.

Steph is an Islander and has her family here on the Island (actually traced back to 16th century).
Now as a councillor for Ventnor West she sees herself with a new exciting challenge. She will make herself available to listen to residentsí concerns and hopes to have a positive effect on both Ventnor town and coast to ensure it is even more appealing to visitors and local families.

I grew up on the island (my father had a Pharmacy in Ryde), only leaving at 17 to start an engineering training scheme with the Ministry of Defence. When the opportunity arose to return to the island 30 something years later, my partner Judith and I leapt at the chance and without hesitation chose Ventnor - who would live anywhere else?

I've worked in engineering, the University sector and most recently in the governments innovation agency InnovateUK, working with colleagues in from treasury, BEIS and local government. I hope I've picked up a few skills along the way that will prove useful in working with the councils partner organisations, both those closest to us and more distant.

My partner Judith has opened a fitness business in the town, working lately from Ventnor Fitness Studio.

I'm looking forward to doing my bit towards making Ventnor an even better place to live.
